Fairview, named after Fairview cove in Bedford Basin, is a mainly residential area of Halifax off the Penisula. Neighbouring Clayton Park and West End Halifax, Fairview is a mix of multi-residential apartment buildings and single-family homes.
Until the mid-2000’s Halifax West high school called Fairview home before a new school was built in the Clayton Park West community. The old building has since been demolished and was replaced with rows of residential townhouses.
Recently, there have been many new developments at the top of Fairview off Main Avenue including a direct connection to Bayers Lake Business park which neighbors both on Clayton Park and Fairview.
Main arteries for roadways in the area are Joseph Howe Drive, which runs from the Armdale Rotary all the way through Fairview to the Bedford highway, as well as Dutch Village Road, the home of most commercial businesses in Fairview and also connects to Bayers Road heading directly into the downtown core of Halifax.
Currently, there are five schools serving the area, three elementary schools, and two junior highs.
There is shopping in the area of Fairview with a Superstore for groceries on Joeseph Howe Drive and a few small take-out restaurants. Neighbouring Clayton Park offers more options for entertainment and shopping.
